A division between two chuches by 11th grade

It is very interesting that once upon a time both churches were one and the same. The event that separated both churches, happened a long time along when during mass the embassedor of the Pope went into a church in the middle of mass and excommunicated the Patriarch Of Constantinople. That was the event that separated both churches. They have some similarities like the use of icons, but the western church changed for statues. The event of excommunicating each other finally reached an end when pope John Paul II became pope.

MrMac: Eastern Orthodoxy

2. How are the Churches of Rome and Eastern Orthodoxy different, how are they similar?
