from reformer to protestant-Elisa
this section talks about what the title states. changing from a reformer to a protestant. the Oxfords scholar's break with the papacy was part of a new idea that he had formed of the church. he was accepting the division of the church into 3 parts. "one triumphant in heaven, one military here on earth, and asleep in purgatory" . Wyclif drew a conclusion, the church is a unity that knows nothing of papal primacies and hierachies, and of the "sects" of monks, friars, and priests. nor can the salvations of the elect be conditioned by masses, indulgences, penance, or other devices of priestcraft.
The passage of bohemia
This passage talks about two people Anne of Bohemia and Richard ll of England. The next thing was how they compared that pope has a big contrast with Jesus' actions. Jesus entered the towns barefoot while the pope entered riding a horse. Jesus washed his disciples' feet while the pope preferred to have his kissed.
The English zealot, Wyclif by Ale R
This section talks about John Wyclif who was a zealot. He had a very radical way of looking at his religion. During this period dominion was the most important issue. And he was against this, Wyclif believed that a ruler should be like Jesus. Talking about Being poor and not powerful like everyone expected. That is what he wanted for the papacy, a modest and noble ruler that would teach to people and show the right way and not someone that would take advantage from the excess of power.
Jana-Away with Heretics
Hus didn't want to lie only because the church did not agree with his sides of view.
Not even for money he would change his mind.
"I have said that I would not, for chapel full of gold, recede from the truth."
Few scenes in church history are more touching than Hus's fidelity and refusal to swerve from absolute truth, even to save his life.
On 6 July 1415 was the day before his burning and Hus saw that all his books he wrote were burning on a bonfire.
One day later Hus was executed.
The Bohemian rebellion refused to die with Hus.It developed a moderate and militant wing
The followers of Hus called the Utraquists and the Taborites struggled against the Roman Church and the German Empire until several wars reduced theri number and influence. But an independent church survived called the Unitas Fratrum or Unity of the Brotherhood.
The time of judgment had come. The Unity of Brotherhood was wittness to that fact, and a promise of things to come.
