Christianity became very popular overnight because it was a political move, and people liked it better because of the gift they would receive when they died, which was heaven. Once there was this man in Gaul who was a pagan and was going to war with Italy he praised the Christian God and won. That was the reason he liked Christianity and turned into a Christian. When people realized Christianity was growing, they decided it would be the best thing to make it the empire's religion.

Christianity became so popular overnight because it was a political move. A guy in Gaul was a pagan and was going to war with Italy he praised the Christian God and won, so he turned over to Christianity. all of a sudden people started seeing Christianity was growing and it would be the best thing to make it the empires religion. This way they would stop a riot from happenin and make all the Christians happy, if people did not like Christianity they could do nothing about t since it was the emperors decision.
for all, por todos!
They became the biggest religion in the empire, because the emperor Constantine became christian. He accepted christianity, because of that they stopped praising other gods. we also think that christianity became the biggest religion because God helped the christians to survive and after the persecution passed they could walk freely in the streets.

Luisa Gamez, ch. 8
I do agree with Origin. I agree with him because when we die i think we or all who believe in God will go to heaven. Also because when we get there we are going to see God and we will all be together there. I think he was condemn because maybe church leaders during his time were closed minded and thought he was doing this in a mean way and kind off saying he did not believe on what the BIble said.
Antonio Conde alias el papo
I think Origen was right when he said that everyone is going to unite when they go to heaven except the demons because they are evil. i do not know if animals will go to heaven as well. they probably will go to heaven because God made them living things.

This chapter focuses on comparing the christian faith with the hellenistic philosophy. It also talks about the theologians that opposed the use of hellenistic philosophy to explain christian faith. Jerome was a very important figure in christian faith because he translated the latin vulgate. Also this chapter talks about Tertullian who was known as the greatest opposer of hellenistic philosophy. In this chapter we learn about Origen one of the greatest theologians in all history. Origen and Clement were the ones that opened the first catechetical school.
catias journal
we are now in ch 8 we are learning about philosophy ad how the hellenistic era came to christianity. today it is halloween jajaja. Well last chapter we learned about bishops and deacons and priests. we had a test on monday. we will have a test next week on ch 8. i hope i will not do bad. we are learning about origen, tertullian and many other personalities.
Melvin
I think that Origen was just wrong literary wrong. I think that a human being will go where he deserves to go. If you behave good you'll go to heaven, and if you behave bad you'll go to hell. I think that a person pays for his actions.
Elisa....Origen
Origen had incredible ideas. he thought of things i did not even bother to think about. origen was original. i think that he was right on believing what he believed. everyone has the right to believe in something, someone, or anything. the church condemned him for something wrong. God loves us all and we are all his sons...he would not let us suffer for mistakes.

well we are in chapter 7. this chapter talks about bishops and deacons. how they evolved and their leadership in the church. yeah it is a nice chapter. when i did my presentation i ha d to talk about modernists and conservationists. these two were two different types of christians in the church. conservationists wanted to stay with the old rules and laws of the church. modernists on the other hand wanted christianity to adapt to their times. i agree more with the modernists. i think rules are made to adapt and be good for our own times. so we cannot be living by rules of old times because they may not fit our times well.
11th grade class
Chapter 7 talks about bishops and deacons. They were the authorities of the church. Bishops, however were the ones that were in charge of leading church services. A bishop was seen as being almost as important as a governor. Church leaders were very important to people. If town people needed advice in some kind of problem, they would go to church leaders so that they could help them. Chapter 7 also talked about the transition from Bishops and deacons to priests. Apostolic succession is very important because it means that priests could trade their ordinance back to an apostle. That gave credibility and reliance to priests all over the world.
Mr Mac: Ch7 Question
What is your opion of the history of the development of the power of bishops in the early church.
-Is this development part of God's plan, that continues today?
-Was it originally part of God's will, but later corrupted by men seeking power?
-Was it entirely developed by early leaders, and never part of Jesus' vision of his Church?

I think that if the people of those times didn't included those books it must've been for a reason. They probably had a really good reason to no include them. I also think they should've add them because in those books you would've find something that would've helped you if you were passing through a hard time.
antonio test response
i think the Apocrapha should be included in all canons because they are historical books as well as rest of the others, and nobody should decide to wether the books should not be included because they have no right to do that with the Apocrapha. Those books should be included because they are full of very helpful facts, that could help anybody who is having a bad time or a happy time.
catia's test response
I think that they should be included. They should be included because that way we know what they are about and what they teach. I do no think those books say bad things. Therefore I do not understand why they are not included. Many books like the books of the Apocrypha have been excluded, and the reasons of why they have been excluded I do not really understand. These Apocrypha books could bring god teachings into our lives and should be included.
Alejandra Ramirez
I think that the deuterocanonical books should be included that way we can have more information about jesus, we can learn more if we have more books o read from. I think it is always better to have extra information and be extra prepared. The deuterocanonical books of the Apocrypha can help us to have more ideas or ways of behavior.
Luisa G. : Test responce
Do you think that the Deuterocanonical books of the Apocrapha should be included in all canons? Why, or why not?
I think they should be accepted. i think they should be accepted because they are historical books as well as the rest of them, and nobody except for them had the right to say if they should or shouldn't be included. Also those books are written by every wise people and tell things that are very true. They could help us live our lives better and make better decisions when we are passing through a tough time.

Elisa (test response)
The Deuterocanonical books of the Apocrapha should be included in all canons because some of them include the rules of living. Why would anyone want to exclude them? Then they are only creating a new religion. This one will not be the one God wants us to follow. I believe that people do not have the right to decide what books qualify and and which ones do not.

Mahatma believed that who jesus was more important than his teachings. I think that there has to be a balance between both. People have to be aware of who Jesus is, but they also have to listen to his teachings. Jesus was a very wise person that had many answers, so it is also important for people to listen to Jesus and his words. In the other had it is also important for people to know who Jesus is, because he is the son of God and we should never forget about that. Jesus is the savior that came down to save us, and so knowing that helps us to better understand the way he was and his teachings. So for me both: knowing who Jesus was, and his teachings were equally important.
catias journal
This week we learned about what Mahatma Ghandi's view on Christianity. What he thought was that the most important thing about Christianity was to believe in Jesus teachings not in the person that Jesus was. About this I agree with Ghandi. To me it is more important that if you call yourself a Christian you can actually follow what Jesus teachings were. There are many hypocritical people that call themselves Christians just because they go to church every Sunday but they do not even stop a second to start judging other people and their lives. What some people do that call themselves Christians contradicts Jesus teaching sometimes. To follow Jesus teachings is the hardest thing and that is why I think that is the hardest thing to do and that if you do it or really try to follow Jesus teachings then you really own the right to be a Christian. Jesus teachings are a really important compilation of good advice and you can learn a lot in them, even if you are not a Christian you can learn a lot from him. For example I think all the religions have a good part in them and we can get good lessons from other religions even if we do not necesarily want to be part of that religion.
Melvin
I believe that both of those things are very important. Like I believe that what Jesus said and did are very important for our lives. Jesus acts are very important for us because because he died for us in the cross, and because of that he saved us. His good acts also teach to be good and also teach how to live our lives and how to behave. What Jesus said was also important because he only saved wise stuff, the stuff he said help us, because if you follow them, you will live a good life.
Luisa & Antonio
Opinion on Mahatma Gandhi: do you agree with the author that the event who jesus was was more important that what he said.?
We think that all in Jesus' life was important. Jesus was as important as what he said because all of what he said he proved to be truth. Everything he promised was made. We think that everything and everyone in his life was important because he help everyone and made them feel better. Also every word he spoke were words of wisdom and words we should follow. We should always be thankful with Jesus because he saved us and because of him we are alive. So we think that his words are as important as his actions, because what Jesus said were his actions! Elisa Weissenberg(chapter 5)
I do agree with Mahatma. He said that the event, who Jesus was, is more important than what Jesus said. I really dont believe that the hole Jesus story is actually right. For me, those are just stories that say something to prove a point. and really when you add up all those points it ends up to be a lifetime to follow. For me those are just like tips. those tips help you live and they are life changing stories because it helps you relate to them. then you think back and say ooohh...this is what happened here, and this is how i should react. i think that is what Mahatma was trying to express. i totally agree with him. he was a very smart person.

this week we saw a movie about the 12 apostles. i learned a lot about it. most of the apostles died being martyrs. peter was crucified upside down. andrew was crucified like an X and paul was beheaded. we learned about all the forms they died, the apostles. mary magdalene and john were the only ones that drew away and lived like hermits until they were old and died. i hope u get better Mr.Mac
The Borrowers
The borrowers were nice people. they borrowed what "beings" didnt use. God probably sent the borrowers. and God had it all planed out. The borrowers helped the family keep their home because it was going to be destroyed by a filthy lawyer. The borrowers have changed our lives because now we see that no matter how small, tall, fat, ugly people are we are all the same. we all come from the same place. we are all gods people. This story relates to all of us because we have treated people badl because of the color, size, and other things. we should not do this because like we said, we are all the same, we are all Gods people.

This movie that we just watched was very influencial in my life in many ways. The first one is that size does not matter. Well I think, but thats what the movie showed me. The other thing the movie showed me was that if you are united you can win or overcome an obstacle or somenthing like that. The life is full of challenges and you have to overcome them, and no matter how big are the problems you can still overcome them. Just like the borrowers did when they defeated the big fat enormous guy. Life is also working in group, if you try to overcome your problems by yourself it's going to be hard, but when you work in a group just like the little guys did, then you will overcome everthing and you will be better at anything.

Vestments:
The priests in 150 AD. used to wear daily life clothes. They had no specific clothes they had to use, they dressed as normal people wore in those days.
Lyturgucaal services??
Services in the first century or second were not lyturgical. they were fluid and varied in many senses from service to service. The sermons were not written down. They had no set ritual per say.
Bread and wine were brought whenever and sermons were read from wherever they could be heard the best. jajaja and hands were washed because they were really dirty.Prayers depended on the improvisation of the bishop and so on!!!

Journal for first few weeks of Church history class
The eleventh grade class has learned a couple of things this year. We have learned about the stoic notation. Christians added a note of grace to the stoic notation. We now learned that North African Christianity produced the first Latin speaking churches in the world. Did Anybody know that the "God fearers" were Gentiles who believed in the religion of the Jewish people, but yet were not from a Jewish race. There was this guy that was known as the father of Latin Theology. The time period between A.D. 70 and A.D. 312 was known as the Age of Catholic Christianity. Latin was the language of the Roman upper class. Greek was the language of the Roman lower class. The best way to launch a tour of early Christian expansion is with the Jews!!There are various things that we have learned this past week. Christianity in North Africa was led by Bishops, not by somebody else. This class is so enthusiastic about learning new things about ancient churches. we are looking forward for the trip to Antigua Guatemala.

Tuesday through Friday
Homework and Class Work for this week:
Research the Church in the first two centuries:
What was worship like?
PROJECT: Recreate a Christian Worship Service in Rome in the year 150 C.E.
- Was there a liturgy, similar to use in Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran Churches today?
- Or, was worship informal, similar to present day evangelical and pentecostal traditions?
- What day, of days, did they worship? Sunday or Saturday?
- Or, was worship both liturgical and pentecostal?
- Or, was worship different in different cultures?
Where did Christians worship? Church buildings, homes, caves, public buildings, public spaces (city parks or squares, the beach, the forest, etc.)
What were Church buildings like?
What did people wear?
Did the clergy wear vestments at this time?
Was there one language in all Churches (such as Latin or Greek) or was worship in the language of the people.
